The Port of Stockton has an exciting opportunity for a Risk Manager who will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive risk management program. This position serves as a management/professional-level resource for organizational, managerial, and operational activities. Incumbent will be experienced and knowledgeable in department leadership, claims management, property & liability insurance, contractual insurance requirements, risk mitigation, workplace safety, emergency management, & policy development. Successful incumbent must be able to build and foster collaborative relationships with stakeholders to successfully identify and minimize risk and losses.
Ideal Candidate:The ideal candidate for this role will possess diverse strengths in the field of risk management. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative, team player who plans, organizes, leads, supervises and participates in the development, implementation, and administration of the Port's risk management program. Successful candidate will possess proven ability to ensure risk management efforts align with business needs, while overseeing insurance coverage, claims oversight, contract review, workplace safety, and emergency management programs. Successful incumbent will possess the ability to proactively analyze, develop, and recommend cost-effective strategies to minimize liability and loss, while protecting Port staff and assets and ensuring compliance with federal and State safety regulations. The ideal candidate will also coordinate emergency management and business continuity planning and develop related policies and procedures. The Port is seeking a highly collaborative risk management professional who partners with internal and external stakeholders and subject matter experts regarding risk management programs to provide solution-based information to mitigate risk and loss.
Plans, develops, and administers a comprehensive and collaborative risk management and loss control program.
Designs and implements risk management transfer and mitigation measures, best practices, tools, and techniques to align with business needs and priorities.
Enhances and manages a comprehensive occupational safety program.
Coordinates the growth and administration of the Port’s emergency management and business continuity program in partnership with stakeholders.

The Port of Stockton was established under the California Harbors and Navigation Code. It is governed by a seven-member Board of Commissioners (Board). Four commissioners are appointed by the Stockton City Council and three by the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors. The day-to-day administration of Port operations is under the direction of the Port Director who is selected by and serves at the will of the Board.
The Port is a deep-water port located seventy-five miles inland from San Francisco, in the agricultural heartland of California in San Joaquin County. The Port owns and operates marine terminals which are used to load and unload cargo from ships, barges, trucks, and railcars, and to store cargos. Cargos handled by the Port include various dry and liquid bulk, general, and project cargos in the agriculture, foods, infrastructure and building, energy, and renewable fuels commodity sectors. The Port also leases land and warehousing facilities to a number of diverse tenants. Port operations are self-supporting and receive no direct tax subsidies.
